Well Control

RelyOn Nutec offers IWCF and IADC approved Well Control training from Introductory Level to Enhanced Renewals for experienced candidates. Certified well control programmes are designed for individuals directly or indirectly involved in live well operations.

Objectives

During the course,  participants will gain knowledge and understanding of well control for surface and/or subsea installations. This training is vital to ensure that each individual involved in operations understands the role they play in maintaining well control, and is able to act swiftly, effectively, and safely in response to changes in the well.

Well Control for Drilling Operations

Level 2 or Introductory Level Well Control – designed for Roughneck, Derrickman, Drilling Contractor Maintenance personnel (e.g., maintenance supervisor, rig mechanic),  BOP Equipment Installation, re-work, repair or maintenance personnel, BOP / Subsea engineer, Mud logger or well-site drilling data engineer, and others whose actions or inactions may impact on well control.

Level 3 or Driller Level Well Control - designed for Driller,  Assistant Driller and recommended for Subsea BOP Engineer, MPD / UBD well-site service supervisor, Well testing crew,  LMRP Engineer and others who may play a role in recognising when to shut the well in.

Level 4 or Supervisor Level Well Control - designed for Driller and Assistant Driller.

Well Control for Completions and Interventions

Level 2 or Introductory Level– designed for coiled tubing crew members, wireline crew members, snubbing crew members, workover crew members, and others whose actions or inactions may impact on well control during well servicing operations.

Level 3 or Equipment Operator Level - designed for Coiled Tubing Equipment Operator, Wireline Equipment Operator, Hydraulic workover (snubbing) Operator, Wellhead / Tree installation Engineer, and equivalent positions in other well-servicing or intervention operations.

Level 4 or Supervisor Level - designed for Supervisors and decision-makers involved in well servicing operations, such as Completion / Workover / Intervention Supervisor or Superintendent, office-based operational staff (e.g. Senior Completions / Well Intervention Engineer).

Well Control Training and Assessments

Well control training is concluded with written knowledge assessments which are administered by the accrediting bodies. Drilling well control training for Drillers and Supervisors also includes practical training and assessments on a drilling simulator.

Our well control training programmes include access to pre-and post-course study material, formula sheets, workbooks, manuals, videos, and kill sheet exercises as appropriate to fully prepare you for the challenges ahead.

Well Control Certificate Validity

Successful completion of well control training and assessments will result in a certificate which is valid for 2 years (or 5 years at Introductory Level).  

Pre Course Requirement for Well Control Training

All applicants must enrol in the well control programme appropriate for their current or prospective job role. Evidence of prior certification is required for most levels. Online Well Control Training

Introductory Level Well Control training or Basic Well Control training is available as a self-paced e-learning programme. Well Control training above introductory level requires live instructor interaction, either in-person or through virtual instructor-led training.
