FOET Training | A BOSIET refresher course to continue to work in oil and gas

The FOET course is a continuation of the topics covered in the basic safety training also known as BOSIET

FOET is an abbreviation for Further Offshore Emergency Training. Here is what you need to know about FOET training.

What is FOET vs BOSIET training?

In the FOET, students will refresh the features from BOSIET, which will include the chance to practice parts of the safety routine, which usually is not possible to implement in everyday drills and on site safety training.

The training takes place in an environment where different scenarios are simulated — for example, escaping from a helicopter following a crash or a controlled landing at sea.

Students will also get hands-on experience with firefighting equipment. They will learn to apply self-rescue techniques in low visibility and smoke-filled areas. They will also get the opportunity to practice and perform basic first aid.

A FOET course is scheduled for a duration of one day.

Who will need FOET training?

FOET is for personnel who already have the BOSIET certificate. Remember, if you wish to uphold the BOSIET certification, you need to take a FOET course within four years. Otherwise, you will need to re-take the entire BOSIET course.

The validity of a FOET certificate is four years.

FOET is a BOSIET refresher course

The FOET is sometimes referred to as a refresher or renewal course. All offshore workers and personnel are required to refresh their knowledge and re-validate their safety certificate once every four years.

A FOET course revives not only the skills but also the safety certification of every single employee. That makes BOSIET and FOET two of the most important tools for avoiding dangerous situations at an offshore work-site. It also serves as a way to make sure that co-workers can count on the person next to them have the knowledge and training needed to handle many different risk scenarios.

Where to attend a FOET training course?

There are many places and regions where you can attend a FOET course. It is one of the most common safety courses available, so you will likely not be too far away from the nearest FOET course.

How much does a FOET training course cost?

You can see all prices and course dates in the course descriptions - see course table above.

Who is eligible for FOET?

FOET is open to anyone who has any of these certificates: BOSIET/T-BOSIET/BOSIET with CA-EBS/FOET/T-FOET/FOET with CA-EBS.

What if you miss the course and the certificate expires?

Applying for a dispensation is possible. You can apply for a dispensation up to three months after your certificate is expired and if it isn’t your first refresher.

Differences between other kinds of FOET Training

The FOET training has some slight variations depending on where the skills will be applied.

In the normal FOET, students train to use aviation life jackets with EBS (Emergency Breathing System). In the T-FOET, students learn the same general skills, but in a variation for tropical regions. FOET with CA-EBS, train to use aviation life jackets with CA-EBS (Compressed Air Emergency Breathing System).
