What is IADC?

IADC is dedicated to enhancing the interests of oil-and-gas and geothermal drilling contractors worldwide. Since 1940, IADC’s mission is to improve industry health, safety and environmental practices; advance drilling and completion technology; and champion responsible standards, practices, legislation and regulations that provide for safe, efficient and environmentally sound drilling operations worldwide.

Membership is open to any company involved in oil and gas exploration, drilling or production, well servicing, oilfield manufacturing or other rig-site services. IADC’s contract-drilling members own most of the world’s land and offshore drilling units that drill the vast majority of the wells producing the planet’s oil and gas. IADC’s membership also includes oil-and-gas producers, and manufacturers and suppliers of oilfield equipment and services. Through conferences, training seminars, print and electronic publications, and a comprehensive network of technical publications, IADC continually fosters education and communication within the upstream petroleum industry.

Headquartered in Houston, the IADC is also present in Washington D.C., the Netherlands, Thailand, and the United Arab Emirates, as well as chapters in the UK, Brazil, Australasia, South Central Asia, Southeast Asia, the Middle East and across the United States.

What does it mean to be IADC certified?

IADC programmes exist to help guide companies in their efforts to ensure quality and consistency of training content and adherence to relevant industry standards. Accredited providers are held to high quality standards to help ensure that drilling industry personnel are properly prepared to perform their jobs safely and efficiently. Programmes are developed and maintained by IADC members working through our technical committees.

What is a IADC Competence Assurance Accreditation System?

The accreditation system for drilling and service company Competence Assurance programs is designed to assure these programes meet accepted practices to develop and ensure the skills of their personnel. Organisations seeking accreditation must complete forms and submit to IADC with appropriate fees and instructional materials.

What is a IADC Crane-Rigger training programme?

Being trained, qualified and competent in operating as a crane rigger will reduce risks.

The IADC programme has been developed in collaboration with its members, including operators, drilling contractors, professional trainers, and other specialists.

It consists of two courses: Basic Rigger and Crane Operator.

What is a Basic Rigger course?

Basic Rigger: provides foundational knowledge and skills needed by personnel fulfilling job positions that include rigging responsibilities.

Crane Operator: addresses routine and non-routine crane operations involving the two basic types of cranes (mechanical and non-mechanical [ie, electric/hydraulic]) and is designed specifically for the crane operator position.

Courses include both knowledge and skills assessments and a certificate is given after competition.
