Introduction to Human Factors
Objective
This course aims to develop awareness and appreciation of the impact that human factors have on our day-to-day processes and decision making. Our introductory course explains how human factors and a deficiency of non-technical skills in the individual and/or team can significantly increase the risk of accidents and incidents during safety critical operations. Through group discussion and exercises, the course aims to equip participants with the tools needed to improve situation awareness, decision making, communication, leadership/supervision, and teamwork.
Target Group
This course has been designed for individuals who work as part of a team with a shared objective or mission. The course will benefit those from any industry, but will be particularly beneficial to those working in safety critical operations in the energy, transport, aviation or maritime industries.
Examination
Successful completion of the course will result in an Aberdeen Drilling School certificate which does not need to be renewed, though refresher training every 2-3 years is recommended.
Course Contents
The course is delivered over 2 days through presentation of a series of interactive lectures supported by videos and animations, case studies, and group discussion. To encourage group discussion and maximise engagement with the material, course participants are divided into teams to review relevant case studies, discuss the issues raised, and consider the relevance to their own operations, i.e. what could have been done better etc. This course can also be customised to include relevant case studies provided by the client.
