HV / LV Safe Working Practices

Objective

• Our competence-based course will provide an understanding of safe operation techniques for high voltage and low voltage systems.
• Included in the course are examples of mandatory documentation, switching procedures, safe isolation procedures and detailed descriptions of equipment operation.

Target Group

Personnel with electrical, instrument or mechanical background within industry who are involved in the installation, maintenance and testing of HV/LV equipment.

Prerequisites

None required

Examination

Delegates will be assessed against the Learning Outcomes specified in the Content Section using direct observation and oral and/or written questions as appropriate. Delegates will be required to score a minimum of 70% on a written exam and successful competency on the practical assessment to qualify for certification.

Should a delegate encounter challenges to meet these Learning Outcomes, RON shall provide additional coaching as an opportunity to meet those requirements

Course Contents

Delegates who successfully complete this course will acquire the following knowledge and skills:

• The Electricity at Work Regulations
• Safe Working Practices (Permit to Work)
• Competency and Assessment of Electrical Personal
• HV/LV Switchgear
• Safe Isolation of HV motors, Transformer and Generator etc.
• Earthing (Grounding) of HV/LV Electrical Equipment
• Network Configuration and Operating practices (Interlocks / Inter trips)
• Permits more than paper (Video)
• Preparation of switching programmes
• Syndicate Exercise (Control and Issue of Electrical Safety Documents, preparation of switching programmes and completion of permits)
• Generator Operations (Single/parallel)
• System control and Synchronising
• Protection (overview)
• Testing and Fault finding
• Risk Mitigation against Arc Flash
• Written Assessment paper
Practical
On-Site practical exercises (Equipment to be identified by client).
