Control Room Operator
Objective
The Control Room Operator Emergency Response assessment programme is to assess delegate’s performance in controlling emergencies and critical situations, in the position of a CRO.
Target Group
The Control Room Operator (CRO) Emergency Response assessment programme is designed for personnel who are about to be appointed to a CRO position or who are already serving as a CRO.
Prerequisites
A formal declaration from the candidate’s employer confirming that the candidate has achieved the performance criteria in Unit 1, Element 1.1 in the workplace, and that the candidate has been deemed ready for formal assessment against Elements 1. 2 to 1.3.
Examination
Assessments are carried out against the OPITO standard for Control Room Operator Emergency Response Standard - OPITO Standard Code 9004.
During these assessments candidates must demonstrate competence across the following areas
• Maintain a state of readiness -Should be completed offshore prior to training
• Control critical situations
• Co-ordinate the response to emergencies
Course Contents
The competence statements contained in this standard provide a clear description of performance in the workplace:
a. What practitioners are expected to do.
b. The underpinning knowledge and skills they would require enabling them to do what was expected.
c. How they could demonstrate what was expected of them.
d. How their performance would be assessed.
The following Elements will be the focal areas of Assessment.
• Maintain State of Readiness
• Control Critical Situations
• Respond to Emergencies
Note:
The above is a mix of classroom theory session and practical exercises. Held within a mock-up control room during which time, delegates shall have to manage an emergency to a conclusion.
