Crane Inspector Training with Sparrows
Objective
The Sparrows crane inspector training programme is developed in accordance with API RP2D-2 standards and intended to provide the delegate with proper inspection and maintenance criteria and techniques. The aim of this course is to provide the delegate with the knowledge and skills required to identify major inspection areas in order to competently act as a qualified inspector.
Target Group
The Sparrows Crane Inspector Training is designed for those working in crane lifting and inspection operations required to inspect documents or maintain offshore pedestal cranes.
Examination
A Sparrows certificate will be awarded on successful completion of this course. The certificate is valid for four years.
Course Contents
The course is delivered in the classroom with theoretical learning and practical exercises for delegates to put the learning into practice, areas covered include: • API recommended practices in effect as well as API Specification 2 C (design and manufacturing) changes according to the monogrammed cranes built to standard • Operation and maintenance following the API RP guidelines and manufacturing requirements for installation or inspection of crane components • Wire rope inspection, identification, installation and maintenance of running and standing ropes; o Safety systems operation, adjustment, and inspection o Sheaves, hook and hook block arrangement inspection o Slew arrangements as well as inspection and maintenance including bolt installation and torque / tensioning methods • Inspection of boom corrosion, straightness, measurement and verification to load rating chart Hydraulic system function and components, flow and pressure as well as piping and hose installation • Hoist and brake inspection and troubleshooting as per manufacturers recommendations o Brake testing o Lubrication requirement o Emergency load lowering methods per Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) • Load indication types and installation • Load and pull testing of cranes and when required according to API and other standards • Proper usage and application of microammeters, calliper, and tape measuring tools • Proper and safe usage of volt, ohm, and amp meter during electrical inspections • Written theoretical exam (open book).
