The Safe Transportation of Dangerous Goods by Sea

Objective

This training course is designed to equip delegates with the skills and knowledge required to correctly prepare shipments of Dangerous Goods for Transport by Sea, which complies with the requirements of the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code for the Safe Transport of Dangerous Goods by Sea.

Target Group

This course is intended for shipper’s or staff from shipping departments or those personnel responsible for the transportation of dangerous goods by sea.

Prerequisites

ITEMS TO BRING: All delegates must bring Photographic I.D. and PASSPORT only (original or copy)

HEALTH: All delegates will be asked to complete a medical questionnaire prior to course commencement.

Examination

During the course, delegates are loaned a copy of the IMDG Codes and the session concludes with a written examination which currently has a minimum pass mark of 80%.

Upon successful completion of the course delegates will be awarded with a certificate issued by RelyOn Nutec.

Course Contents

To successfully complete this module, delegates must be able to:

1) Explain the IMDG (International Maritime Dangerous Goods) Code.
2) Identify United Nations guidance and numbering.
3) Explain the role of the enforcing authority.
4) Identify the types and classifications of dangerous goods.
5) Explain the specifications requirements for the packaging and shipping of DGs.
6) Explain the requirements of the packages, transport units and tanks.
7) Explain the segregation of multiple dangerous goods.
8) Explain the positioning DGs in a shipping container.
9) Identify marking, labelling, and placarding DGs.
10) Explain the information required for DG declarations.
11) Explain the requirements for Container Packaging or Competent Authority Approval certificates.
12) Explain the shipping agent acceptance procedures and pre-loading checks.
