ERRV Crew Initial Training Shipboard Operations (OPITO)
Objective
The aim and objectives of the Initial Training Shipboard Operations
training programme are to equip the delegate with the initial knowledge, understanding and skills required to perform the role of ERRV crew.
Target Group
The ERRV Crew Initial Training Shipboard Operations training is designed for personnel that intend to work onboard an Emergency Response and Rescue Vessel (ERRV). This is excluding Chief Engineers and Masters, as there is no requirement for them to undertake the training.
Prerequisites
There are no prerequisites for this course. However, training activities contained within this course may include physically demanding and potentially stressful elements. All personnel who participate in such activities must be capable of participating fully.
Examination
Continuous training and assessment required through Ongoing Onboard
Development and Training Programme for ERRV Masters and Crew
Standard (OODTP). A formal assessment is made through the OODTP
programme at least every 3 years.
Course Contents
The ERRV Crew Initial Training Shipboard Operations (ITSO) course is
designed to meet the initial emergency response training requirements for
the all prospective ERRV Crew members. This training programma is part
of a broader programme, which includes ongoing onboard training and
assessment.

Outcome 1: Anatomy and Physiology as appropriate to the role of the BMA
Outcome 2: Principles and Priorities of First Aid
Outcome 3: Anticipated Scenarios Encountered by the BMA following an
Offshore Incident
Assessment and Treatment of Casualties
Outcome 1: How to initially receive Casualties Onboard
Outcome 2: Treatment of Anticipated Scenarios encountered by the BMA
following an Offshore Incident
Outcome 3: Casualty Monitoring and Recording
Outcome 4: Initial assessment of casualties
