Sparrows Offshore Crane Operator Stage 1 & 2 Combined Training

Objective

The aim of the Sparrows Offshore Crane Operator Stage 1 and 2 Combined course is to provide candidates with the critical knowledge and control skills required for safe crane operations at Stage 2 standard.

Target Group

This combined Stage 1 and 2 Offshore Crane Operator training programme is designed for client-nominated personnel identified as having the skill set to conduct and perform safely the disciplined requirements of a Stage 2 Crane Operator, with the future intention of progressing to a fully qualified Stage 3 Offshore Crane Operator.

Examination

Candidates who complete the Combined Stage 1 and 2 course may be awarded one of three possible certifications: 1) Sparrows Offshore Crane Operator Stage 1 and 2 Combined certification, which is valid for 2 years, will be awarded to candidates who pass all theoretical and practical assessments. 2) Sparrows Offshore Crane Operator Restricted Stage 2 certification will require the candidate to undertake further training. Please contact us for full details. 3) Sparrows Offshore Crane Operator Stage 1 certification, which is valid for 2 years, may be awarded to the candidate if he/she does not meet the requirements of the Stage 1 and 2 Combined Offshore Crane Operator criteria.

Course Contents

This training programme covers both theoretical content and practical elements / exercises to enforce and highlight the safe operating practises and procedures required to safely conduct routine lifting operations as an Offshore Crane Operator at a Stage 2 level, including but not limited to: • Health and safety legislation • Basic crane terminology • Principles of stability • Basic mechanical principles • Safety devices • Safe working loads • British standard hand signals • Rated capacity indicators • Pre-operational checks / shutdown procedure • Introduction to wire ropes • Practical instruction covering the operating techniques to: o Contribute to integrated safe systems of work o Carry out pre-start checks and inspections o Lift, transfer and position loads o Respond to hand signals and radio instruction. A practical assessment and theoretical evaluation is conducted mid-week and a final theoretical assessment is conducted on the final day with a required pass mark of 80% or above.
