Advanced Firefighting Revalidation (HOUSTM-777)

Objective

Any applicant who has successfully completed your Advanced Firefighting Revalidation (HOUSTM-777) course will satisfy:

⦁ The Advanced Firefighting continued standards of competence required by 46 CFR 11.303(b) for mariners who have previously held an Advanced Firefighting endorsement under STCW Code Section A-VI/3, PROVIDED that the mariner has at least 1 year of sea service within the last 5 years; STCW Code Section A-VI/3 and Table A-VI/3, as amended 2010, meeting the National Assessment Guidelines from NVIC 09-14(Ch-1) Tasks 1.3.A, 1.5.A, 2.1.A, 2.1.B, 3.1.A, 3.1.B, 4.1.A, 4.1.B and 4.1.C.

Eligible Maritime Vessel Officers or Installation Workers

Prerequisites

To be eligible to take this course, the Mariner must have at least 1 year (360 days) of seagoing service within the previous 5 years and provide evidence of maintaining the standard of competence set out in Table A-VI/1-2 of the STCW code.

The Code of Federal Regulations 46 CFR 10.403(a)(3) requires training to be administered entirely in the English language unless specifically approved to be presented in another language.

Students must be able to read and write in English to take the written exam and successfully complete the course.

Examination

To successfully complete this course, each candidate must score a minimum of 70% on a written question exam as well as successfully meet all performance scenario-based assessments.

46 CFR 10.403(a)(4) requires a written examination. Course Instructors are not permitted to assist with taking written exams.

Course Contents

This course is intended to cover the competency elements in STCW Code Table A-VI/3 that were deemed not acceptable to be maintained and demonstrated by onboard training and experience, also 46 CFR 11.303(d). Those elements include:
- Firefighting at sea and in port
- Stability in Firefighting
- Firefighting with dangerous goods
- The organization of and training offire parties
- Detection devices
- Inspection procedures
- Incident reports and investigation
