ECITB Appointed Person - Moving Loads

Objective

ECITB Appointed persons Moving Loads course delivers the necessary skills and knowledge to manage and plan the types of lifts or moving loads operations that occur within the industry.

Target Group

The ECITB Appointed Person Moving Loads course has been designed for steel erectors and Riggers working within the Engineering Construction Industry who are looking to develop the necessary skills and knowledge to manage and plan the types of lifts or moving loads operations that occur within the industry.

Prerequisites

All persons attending the course must meet the following criteria:

ECITB level 3 Vocational Qualification in Steel Erecting or Moving Loads

or

Recent verifiable experience in moving loads operations validated by company and delegate CV

Examination

On succesful completion of the Practical and Theoretical Assessments delegates will be issued with an ECITB Approved Course Certificate and a Work Based Task Assignment.

Course Contents

Day 1: Legisaltion, Safe working practices and Procedures:
LOLER, PUWER, HASAWA, BS7121, COPSULE, MHSWR, HSE, LEEA

Day 2: Roles and Responsibilities:
Planning Rigging operations
Determining Communication requirements
Control of rigging operations
Leadership & Management of rigging teams
Supervision and coaching of team members
Organisation/project lifting chain of command

Day 3: Calculating Forces:
Equipment/resource requirements
Calculating load weights, snatch blocks and angles
Forces applied during cross hauling
Tension applied on slings at different angles
Calculating CoG
Required competency levels
Lifting Equipment selection and assurance checks
Lifting points selection and safe and ready to be used
Inspection of lifting equipment before and after task

Day 4: Practical - Planning and performing the rigging task:
Generate Lift Plans
Generating risk assessments
Generating & delivering Toolbox Talks
Briefing the liftinfg team
Confirmation of Lifting team understanding
End of Course examination
