IWCF Level 3 & 4 Drilling Well Control (Surface & Subsea)
Objective
The IWCF Level 3 Drilling Well Control course is essential training for those working in roles where well shut-in might be required. The course aims to strengthen and enhance the candidate's existing knowledge and understanding of the various stages of well shut-in; from kick detection to shutting in the well, to monitoring once the well is shut in, and overseeing the kill operation itself.
Target Group
Level 3 (Driller) course is designed for anyone expected to be able to shut in a well, such as drillers and assistant drillers. Note: IWCF training levels 2 to 4 are intended to be sequential, and first-time candidates are expected to complete Level 2 before progressing to Level 3 or Level 4. However, the training levels are also meant to be role-specific and dependent on the candidate's work experience. For guidance and advice on which training level you are qualified for, please contact us.
Examination
The course includes: 2 written exams: Equipment and Principles & Procedures. 1 practical exam. Successful completion of the course, with a correct answer rate of 70% or higher on both the written and practical IWCF exams, will result in an IWCF certificate valid for 2 years.
Course Contents
The 5-day course is conducted as a series of interactive lectures, supported by videos and animations, group discussions, and drilling simulator exercises. It is supplemented with a classroom workbook and additional self-study exercises. Level 3 training can be partially combined with Level 4 training for shared modules and during simulator-based training, where each candidate assumes their respective roles as they would in normal drilling operations.
