Fire Prevention And Fire Fighting
Objective
The objective this training course is to provide delegates with a basic level of fire awareness including prevention and risk minimisation, and in the actions to be taken in the event of a fire or similar emergency on board a ship.
Target Group
This training course is for all delegates requiring certification under STCW Regulation VI/1 – basic training or instruction for watch ratings, able seafarers, trainees officers and others with specified fire fighting duties on board a ship.
Prerequisites
There are no training pre-requisites for this course.
Examination
Training will consist of a mix of theoretical and practical elements and delegates will have to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of the course contents.
Upon successful completion of the course, delegates will be awarded an MCA-approved Proficiency in Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting certificate.
Certification is valid for 5 years at which point delegates should undertake the Updated Proficiency in Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting training programme to remain certified.

• Fire chemistry and ignition sources
• Personal protective equipment
• Being prepared for an emergency situation
• The use and safe operation of fire fighting equipment
• The role of a fire party member, including the use of breathing apparatus
• Shipboard fire fighting organisation
• Fire/smoke detection and alarm systems
