Medical Care Provider (HOUSTM-310)
Objective
The goal is to enhance safety and productivity in the maritime working environment by instilling the knowledge and skills appropriate to assist in a medical emergency situation while aboard a vessel.
Target Group
Individuals who are applying for Coast Guard licenses and must complete this course as a qualification prerequisite.
Medical Care Provider (HOUSTM-310) course will satisfy:
• The Medical First-Aid Provider training and standards of competence required by 46 CFR 12.619; AND
• The Medical First-Aid Provider training requirements of 46 CFR 11.309(a)(4)(i), 11.317(a)(3)(i), 11.319(a)( 4)(i), 11.321(a)(3)(i), 11.329(a)( 4)(i), and 11.335(a)(3)(i); AND
• The Medical First-Aid standards of competence required by 46 CFR 11.309(a)(3), 11.317(a)(2), 11.319(a)(3), 11.321(a)(2), 11.329(a)(3), and 11.335(a)(2); AND
• The Medical First-Aid standards of competence required by STCW Code Section AVI/4 and Table A-VI/4-1, as amended 2010, meeting the National Assessment Guidelines from NVIC 05-04; AND
• The Medical First-Aid standards of competence required by STCW Code A-II/1 and Table A-II/1, as amended 2010, meeting the National Assessment Guidelines from NVICs 12-14(Ch-4), 01-17(Ch-2), and 02-18 Task 16.1; AND
• The Medical First-Aid standards of competence required by STCW Code A-II/3 and Table A-II/3, as amended 2010, meeting the National Assessment Guidelines from NVIC 13-14 (Ch-3) Task 11.1.A; AND
• The Medical First-Aid standards of competence required by STCW Code A-III/1 and Table A-III/1, as amended 2010, meeting the National Assessment Guidelines from NVICs 17-14(Ch-4) and 04-17(Ch-2) Task 14.1; AND
• The Medical First-Aid standards of competence required by STCW Code A-III/6 and Table A-III/6, as amended 2010, meeting the National Assessment Guidelines from NVIC 23-14(Ch-2) Task 16.1.A.
Prerequisites
Must have completed a course in elementary first aid, or attained a similar standard in elementary first aid.
Examination
The candidate will be required to score a minimum competency of 70% on a written exam and perform proficiency demonstrations.
