8-hour Western Rivers Navigation


The goal is to provide students with the knowledge, understanding, and proficiency to safely navigate the Western Rivers, taking into the aids to navigation, the effect of current on vessel speed, the use of Corps of Engineer River maps, and other unique features of Western Rivers operations.

Target Group

Individuals who are applying for a credential as Apprentice Mate, Mate, or Master of Towing Vessels with a Western Rivers route.


Students must be able to speak and read in English.


The candidate will be required to score a minimum competency of 70% on a written exam.
