Emergency First Aid at Work including the use of AED
Objective
To provide a designated person to act on behalf of employer, where the company identify that a first aider is not necessary. In such cases the ACOP to the first aid at work regulation recommends training of appointed persons. The course aim is to make the student aware of his or her responsibilities during their time at the workplace.
Target Group
To provide personnel with the information required to act on the companies behalf in the absence of a regular first aider, or in organisations where a person is to take charge of first aid arrangements.
Continual assessments will be carried out to ensure delegates are competent and meet the criteria of the training programme.
Prerequisites
There are no pre requisites for attending this training programme
Examination
Successful delegates will be issued with a completion certificate, validity 3 years
Course Contents
Understand the role of the first aider including reference to:
the importance of preventing cross infection
the need for recording incidents and actions
use of available equipment
assess the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency
administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious (including seizure)
administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation
Correct use of an automatic external defibrillator (AED)
administer first aid to a casualty who is choking
administer first aid to a casualty who is wounded and bleeding
administer first aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock
provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries (including small cuts, grazes and bruises, minor burns and scalds, small splinters)
