Objective

The aim is for delegates to achieve a broad understanding of the interaction between systematic HSE work, HSE tools and HSE culture. As well as explain this interaction. The delegates should achieve the necessary skills to utilise relevant HSE tools.

Target Group

The study module is aimed at people with a position, or wishing to develop their skills, related to HSE. Upon completion, the course qualifies for 15 credits.

Prerequisites

It is a prerequisite that all applicants satisfies the genaral admission requirements for higher education, or have their prior learning evaluated by the Western Norway University of Applied Science.

In order to have your prior learning assessed, an application containing the necessary information needs to be submitted to the Western Norway University of Applied Science.

Examination

An exam is submitted through a written project review. This project review can be done individually or in a group. If the project is done as a group project, the group will get a joint grade. Delegates will receive tutorial support on their project.

Course Contents

This study module deals with the different HSE tools.

Choosing the right HSE tools; correct use and follow-up to ensure that the desired effect is crucial to securing effective and systematic HSE work. This study module will be an important instrument in the development of an optimal HSE culture in your organisation.

The study module consist of the following themes:

Systematic HSE work and HSE culture; choosing HSE tools; HSE reporting; HSE management and environmental management.

Risk; risk terminology; risk management: risk analysis; risk-handling

Accident investigation; causation theory, direct and underlying causes, barriers, methods (MTO, STEP).

Mapping; mapping of physical- psychosocial environmental factors, evaluation of functions, method of action, HSE inspection, internal HSE revision.

Crisis management; residual risk and principles for crisis management and contingency planning.

Human resources policy and work environments that promote health.

Methods of teaching:
The methods of working in this study module will vary between lectures, group work, presentations, discussions and exchange of experiences.

The program will be IT-supported, so that contact between students and teachers can be maintained between the different gatherings.
