Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training (BOSIET) with Emergency Breathing System (EBS)

Objective

The aim of the BOSIET (with EBS) is to introduce learners to the specific safety issues and regimes relevant to offshore installations, and to equip them with the basic emergency response knowledge and skills for travelling to and from offshore installations by helicopter.

Target Group

This training programme is designed to meet the initial offshore safety and emergency response training requirements for personnel new (or returning) to the offshore oil and gas industry who will be supplied with a rebreather emergency breathing system (EBS) during offshore helicopter travel.

Examination

Learners will be assessed against the learning outcomes specified using direct observation and verbal and written questions. Learners will be assessed using written questions for UNIT OIS-01 (Outcome 1-7). Learners will be assessed using verbal questions for UNIT OIS-02 (Outcomes 1-2), UNIT OIS-03 (Outcomes 1-2) and UNIT OIS-04 (Outcomes 1-2). Learners will be assessed using direct observation of practical exercises for UNIT OIS-02 (Outcome 3), UNIT OIS-03 (Outcomes 3-5) and UNIT OIS-04 (Outcomes 3-4). To achieve the BOSIET with EBS Training the learners will need to complete the 4 mandatory units, correctly answering all verbal and written questions and successfully completing all practical exercises specified. Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training (BOSIET) with Emergency Breathing System (EBS) UNIT OIS-01 Safety Induction Outcome 1 - Typical offshore oil and gas activities; Outcome 2 - The main offshore hazards; Outcome 3 - The potential environmental impact of offshore installation operations; Outcome 4 - The principles of managing safety on offshore installations; Outcome 5 - Hazard effects and consequences; their associated risks, and how they are controlled; Outcome 6 - Key offshore installation safety regulations and the basic concept of these regulations; Outcome 7 - Key information and policies to ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of those living and working offshore. UNIT OIS-02 Helicopter Safety and Escape – EBS Outcome 1 - Helicopter Travel; Outcome 2 - Helicopter Emergencies; Outcome 3 - Practical Helicopter Escape Techniques. UNIT OIS-03 Sea Survival and First Aid Outcome 1 - Evacuation Methods and Procedures; Outcome 2 - Emergency First Aid; Outcome 3 - Muster and actions upon boarding a survival craft (TEMPSC); Outcome 4 - Sea Survival and emergency In-water actions; Outcome 5 - Immediate First Aid Actions. UNIT OIS-04 Firefighting and Self Rescue Outcome 1 - Common causes of offshore fires and actions to be taken; Outcome 2 - Self-rescue equipment and techniques; Outcome 3 - Raising the alarm and operation of hand-held extinguishers; Outcome 4 - Self-Rescue Techniques.
