These courses are designed for electrical and non-electrical personnel who are required to understand the hazards and risk associated with working in or near electrical installations, such as substations and switchrooms. Topics provide a basic appreciation of HV systems, regulations and the duties of persons in accordance with industry recognised safe working procedures.
LV awareness
An introductory level program to develop knowledge in safety requirements and risks of working on or near live LV electrical equipment.
HV awareness
An introductory level program to develop knowledge in safety requirements and risks of working on or near live HV electrical equipment.
Arc flash awareness
An introductory level program to provide an understanding of arc flash and the hazards/risks of working around live electrical equipment. Topics include the regulatory context and international standards, characteristics of an arc flash, common causes of arc flash and its human effects. Programs draw on case studies and provide practical approaches to the development of arc flash risk management strategies. -

EXPERTise 2.0
How does it work?
Our approach is to assess “markers” of technical skill using a series of carefully curated scenarios that combine to build a profile. These markers include the capability to:- Recognise task-related conditions
- Associate different task-related conditions
- Prioritise information acquisition to explain task-related conditions
- Identify task-related conditions
- Discriminate relevant from non-relevant issues in responding to task-related conditions.
EXPERTise uses a database of de-identified real-world performance from experienced
practicioners (for a defined role) that establishes a baseline against which to assess individuals. This
provides an evidence-based evaluation of a candidate’s performance. As the database is constantly
updating its benchmarks, it retains accurate markers for contemporary use.How is it used?
We are deploying EXPERTise as an online diagnostic tool. Candidates access the platform and follow the prompts to complete a series of evaluations and tasks. Each evaluation has been developed and tested by industry to ensure realistic and relevant scenarios.
EXPERTise develops a report of individual performance against the tasks. This involves detailed text reports that augment graphs describing the performance of the candidate. These comprehensive reports based on established ‘norms’, provide insights into an individual’s expected expertise level given their experience.
Initially RelyOn will incorporate EXPERTise into it’s high voltage training programs for participants undertaking switching in the field, substations and wind farms. It will also be used to support safety training initiatives, enabling educators to target specific areas for development. Additionally, where organisations want to establish benchmarking insights for seeking improvement and development, RelyOn will provide a consulting service.
