RelyOn, operating in more than 20 countries, has entered into an agreement to acquire The Competency Alliance (TCA), also known as PetroSkills. TCA has a diverse service-portfolio including instructor led training, advisory, digital learning, SaaS-software as well as unique long-tenured relationship with the oil and gas industry’s biggest players. RelyOn and TCA strongly believe that the partnership will further boost its ability to deliver learning and competency service to the global energy sector.

With this acquisition, RelyOn will enhance its training-offering, positioning itself to better support the evolving Energy Transition and NetZero competency needs of the oil and gas industry, and improve RelyOn’s already leading position in workforce development for Renewables. RelyOn is committed to building a robust global technical and engineering training and consulting service. This acquisition allows RelyOn to broaden its offering to the energy industry and further establish itself as a trusted advisor in learning, competence and people development.

TCA has heavily invested in recent years, and is now well positioned to capture on the delivery of training relating to NetZero, Carbon Capture and Sequestration, Blue and Green Hydrogen, Geothermal, Greenhouse Gas Management, and other nascent Renewables growth areas.

TCA brings an organisation with over 80 highly qualified and committed employees and over 140 of the world’s subject matter experts who specialise in delivering services in technical areas such as Greenhouse Gas Management, Carbon Capture, Storage and Sequestration, Hydrogen, Geothermal, as well as Up-, Mid and Downstream oil and gas. Its focus on competence, skills and compliance aligns with RelyOn's mission to support clients in safeguarding their people, assets, and the environment.

Torben Harring, Group CEO of RelyOn, said "TCA is a natural extension of our platform. Its unique value proposition and strong engineering and technical learning services ties very well into our existing portfolio bringing us closer to being a one-stop competency provider for our clients across the energy sector. TCA will play an important role on our strategic journey and will add a new academy to our existing Leadership Academy, Electrical Academy, Fire Academy and Technical Academy.  "

Ford Brett, CEO of TCA, expressed excitement about the transaction, saying, "By joining with RelyOn, The Competency Alliance can bring a broader and deeper set of solutions to the energy industry, expand our worldwide footprint to provide better service, and accelerate what we are doing in Renewable energy to get better even faster.”

Ford Brett and COO, Tom Wilker, will remain in the combined organization and drive the roll-out of TCA services across RelyOn’s global footprint.

The acquisition is expected to close in Q1 2025.
