Introduction
In high-consequence industries, the safety of workers and our environment should be of highest importance. CAVU has made it their mission to support industry-leading organizations in fulfilling their most central obligation: keeping team members and the environment in which they operate safe. Through superior leadership training, CAVU optimizes performance and eliminates risk by addressing the most common human and operational vulnerabilities: human factors, leadership, communication, decision making, teamwork, and situational awareness.
What is CAVU
Drawing from their military background, CAVU supports organizations in developing high-reliability teams across roles and capability, from the frontline up to the executive management. CAVU stands for “ceiling and visibility unlimited”, an aviation term used to describe the perfect day to fly. This is reflected in CAVU’s commitment to help organizations improve their performance and eliminate incidents. At its core, CAVU helps companies identify and address the elemental causes of substandard performance and work incidents by implementing the skills, mindset, and practices needed for high-reliability teams throughout the entire organization. With their own Continuous Improvement Model, a rapidly deployable and dynamic system that ensures team-wide alignment on mission objectives and how to meet them, CAVU is able to address problems felt by frontline workers as well as higher management.
CAVU’s Standards
At CAVU, the success and satisfaction of their clients stands at the center of all operations and actions.
- Integrity: CAVU holds themselves to the highest possible moral standards. Their sense of integrity permeates everything they do, separating CAVU from competitors guiding their responses to the challenges of each day.
- Performance: Thanks to their extensive experience in military and high-risk industry expertise, CAVU is able to accurately understand the thin margins between catastrophic failure and continued success. Continuous improvement and constant focus on their objectives allow CAVU to steadily increase their own performance, thus raising the benchmark that they can lift their clients to.
- Commitment: CAVU’s value proposition is only fully realized when all parties involved demonstrate total commitment to transformational change, which is why they lead with that level of commitment from start to finish.
- Collaboration: In contrast to other consultants, CAVU puts emphasis on coming alongside teams in their unique context, getting their hands dirty, and leading improvement implementation in the ways that make the greatest impact on the operation and objective.

Initiating Change Where It’s Needed Most
Case Study - Newfoundland, Canada
CAVU successfully implemented ExxonMobil's Safe Choice program and the six critical skills of Team Resource Management (TRM) on a client's rig off Newfoundland, Canada. The rig faced high turnover rates and recordable incidents under the previous client, and its overall performance ranked 35 out of 53 rigs in the contractor's fleet. CAVU's coaches mentored and worked with the entire crew, including employees, contractors, and subcontractors, to create a culture of continuous improvement. They helped the team develop a Plan/Brief guide, led Leadership Development Workshops, and identified the top 10 successes and challenges. CAVU then developed Individual Action Plans for each individual to reinforce successes and mitigate challenges. Their efforts resulted in significant improvements and an invitation to maintain a presence on the rig until the end of the campaign. Read more on the case study here.
