Fall Protection Competent Person

Objective

To develop within the delegate the ability to know how to apply OSHA regulations and discuss ANSI standards be familiar with preplan designs and equipment requirements; and have some familiarity with rescue. Additionally, the delegate should be able to determine anchorage point locations and force requirements for personal arrest and restraint systems; write specifications and guidelines for contractors; create horizontal lifeline applications and inspection procedures; and reduce fall hazard exposures

**This training certificate does not establish the individual a competent person. OSHA defines a 'competent person' as "one who is capable of identifying existing and predictable hazards in the surroundings or working conditions which are unsanitary, hazardous, or dangerous to employees, and who has authorization to take prompt corrective measures to eliminate them." By its terms, the definition of a "competent person" compels the employer to select an employee based upon their capability to identify hazards. No course can provide that authority, since it can only be provided by the employer. A competent person is defined in terms of capability.**

A written examination comprised of true/false & multiple choice prompt meeting a minimum passing score of 70%.

- Anatomy of a fall, 6-ft and beyond
- Fit, form, and function of a PFAS
- Energy absorbers
- Anchorage requirements
- Standards and regulations relating to Fall Protection (OSHA 1910 & 1926 and ANSI Z359.1-1992, A10.32-2004, and A14.3-1992)
- Discussion of proposed new standards
- Recognition and identification of fall hazards
- Development and implementation of Fall Protection plans and programs
- Fall Prevention Systems (e.g. handrails, guardrails, etc.)
- Fall Restraint systems (work positioning / travel restricting)
- Fall Arrest systems
- Detailed Equipment inspection & care
