Rigger Initial Training

Objective

The objective of the Rigger Initial Training course is to provide delegates with knowledge of rigging principles, general hazards and risks of rigging and lifting operations, an awareness of relevant legislation and regulation, and an opportunity to practice basic rigging operations following a lifting plan.

Target Group

The Rigger Initial Training is for personnel who have little to no training or experience in rigging and lifting operations.

Prerequisites

There are no training pre-requisites for this training course.

Examination

The course is a mix of both practical and theoretical sessions during which delegates will be required to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of the course contents.
Upon completion of the course, delegates will be awarded with an OPITO-approved Rigger Training Initial Training certificate.
Certification is valid for 32 months. Prior to expiry delegates must complete the Rigger Training Stage 2 Logbook and Rigger Competence Assessment to progress to a Competence Assessment certificate.

Course Contents

The course consists of a mix of ongoing theoretical and practical training designed to give delegates the chance to practice rigging and lifting operations, focussing on the following areas:

• Role and responsibilities of a rigger
• Health & safety legislation
• LOLER and PUWER regulations
• Work hazards and PPE
• Lifting plans, risk assessments and preparing to lift
• Lifting operations including varied lifting techniques for challenging environments
• Post-lift best practice and procedures
