Further Offshore Emergency Response Team Leader
Objective
The objective of the FOERTL Training Programme is to give delegates the opportunity to practice and be assessed on live fire exercises onshore that they would not be able to conduct in the workplace.
Target Group
The FOERTL training course is for existing Offshore Emergency Response Team Leaders who are required to revalidate their OPITO OERTL certification by completing training scenarios which they are unable to undertake offshore.
Prerequisites
Delegates must be in possession of a valid Offshore Emergency Response Team Leader (OERTL) certificate or a valid Further Offshore Emergency Response Team Leader (FOERTL) certificate
Examination
The course is an ongoing competence assessment during which delegates will be given the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and the actions required by the Offshore Emergency Response Team Leader when dealing with live fire and emergency response situations which they cannot reasonably practise offshore.
Upon completion of the course, delegates will be awarded with an OPITO-approved Further Offshore Emergency Response Team Leader (FOERTL) certificate
Certification is valid for 2 years. Prior to expiry delegates must retake the Further OERTL course to remain certified.
Course Contents
The course consists of a mix of ongoing theoretical and practical training designed to give delegates the chance to practice fire and emergency response skills, focussing on the following areas:
• Offshore Emergency Response Team Leader roles & responsibilities
• Offshore emergency response processes, procedures and incident planning, including
o Emergency response team activities
o Team PPE requirements
o Setting incident priorities and objectives
o Monitoring team members and the overall situation
o Conducting dynamic risk assessments
• Delegation, communication and team leadership
• Management of search and rescue missions
• Maintenance of emergency response PPE
