ECITB Mechanical Joint Integrity TMJI18 Dismantle, Assemble and Tensioning Bolted Connections (Hydraulic Tensioning)

Objective

To ensure a candidate has the skills, knowledge and ability to use hydraulic tensioning equipment to accurately dismantle, inspect, prepare, assemble and tension a bolted connection and store the equipment safely after use.

Target Group

Candidates who required complete a formal assessment of their job
knowledge, skills and ability in each Mechanical Joint Integrity subject.

Prerequisites

New Workers only:
A) ECITB MJI Approved Course Certificate
B) Completed Work Based Task Assignment signed off by the supervisor
(Completed within 12 months of the training course)
Experienced Workers:
A) Previous Certificate of Bolting training (where applicable)
B) Company Letter of Endorsement
Existing Workers:
A) Previous ECITB Certificate of Achievement
B) Company Letter of Endorsement (where applicable)

Examination

On successful completion of both knowledge and practical, candidates will be awarded an ECITB approved certificate which is valid for 3 years

Course Contents

Knowledge Test:
The knowledge test requires an 80% pass rate and on successful
completion of the knowledge test the candidate will proceed to a practical activity test against identified test criteria

Practical Test
The examiner must observe the candidate following the 9 activities below:
1. Prepare work areas for the assembly and tightening of bolted connections using hydraulic tensioning equipment
2. Prepare equipment for the assembly and tightening of bolted connections using hydraulic tensioning equipment
3. Prepare materials for the assembly and tightening of bolted connections using hydraulic tensioning equipment
4. Dismantle bolted connections
5. Inspecting and reporting on condition of 3 flanges examples not part of the main test
6. Assemble bolted connections
7. Tighten bolts using hydraulic tensioning equipment
8. Check integrity of assembled bolted connection
9. Reinstate the work area after the assembly and tightening of bolted connections using hydraulic
tensioning equipment
The examiner must measure and check that the candidate has achieved:
The dimensions and tensioning of the bolted connection is within the set tolerances
