Objective

The objective of the OPITO Competence Reassessment is to establish that the candidate has maintained the required underpinning knowledge, understanding and practical skills to fulfil the role of Banksman and Slinger safely and effectively.

Target Group

The Banksman & Slinger Competence Assessment is for personnel wishing to become OPITO re-certified competent Banksman & Slingers

Prerequisites

Learners must possess a valid OPITO-approved Banksman and Slinger Competence or Banksman and Slinger Competence Reassessment Certificate.

Course Contents

The course takes the form of a practical assessment and delegates must demonstrate their competency in the following areas:

• Direct and control the movement and placing of loads
o Maintaining clear and accurate communication with crane operator
o Awareness of other ongoing operations which may affect lifting activities

• Prepare and sling loads
o Establish the weight of the load
o Determining and checking the lifting method
o Lifting accessories
o Slinging of loads
o Clearing the work area
