IADC Stuck Pipe Prevention
Objective
The purpose of this course is to provide drilling personnel with the knowledge and understanding of the causes of stuck pipe and the means to reduce or eliminate stuck pipe as a significant cause of lost time incidents and related costs. Stuck pipe is the primary cause of non-productive time and should not be considered as an inevitable drilling hazard. This short course develops an understanding of how stuck pipe prevention can be managed from the well design and construction process through to the drilling operations phase.
Target Group
This course is designed for rig-site personnel.
Examination
On successful completion of the course, participants who score 80% and above in the final knowledge assessment will be awarded an IADC DIT certificate valid for 2 years (24 months).
Course Contents
The course is delivered over 2 days and is taught through presentation of a series of interactive lectures, short video clips, graphics, worked examples, knowledge assessments, and group discussion. The pre-course knowledge assessments are used to highlight the areas of strengths and weaknesses of the group or individuals to allow the instructor to tailor teaching techniques to provide additional support where required. The worked examples that complement the learning modules allow the course participants to demonstrate their understanding of the subjects covered. To encourage group discussion and increase engagement with the material, course participants are divided into teams to review relevant case studies, discuss the issues raised, and consider the relevance to their own operations, i.e. what could have been done better etc..
