Objective

Unit 1 (OIS-248) - Major Accident Hazards
Outcome: The Legislative Framework surrounding the offshore environment
Outcome: Major Hazards present in the offshore environment
Outcome: The significance of an installation’s Safety Case and personal access to the documentation
Outcome: The concept of Asset Integrity and employer and employee responsibility for Asset Integrity

Unit 2 (OIS-249) - Workplace Hazards and Personal Safety
Outcome: Typical workplace hazards to be found in the offshore environment
Outcome: The relevant IOGP Life Saving Rules associated with typical workplace hazards
Outcome: Company Specific Life Saving / Golden Rules
Outcome: How Personal Actions might influence safety
Outcome: The role of safety committees, safety meetings and safety representatives offshore

Unit 3 (OIS-250) - Risk Management
Outcome: Risk assessment and risk management in an offshore environment
Outcome: Risk Intervention Systems

Unit 4 (OIS-251) - Control of Work
Outcome: The principles of a Safety Management System
Outcome: Principles and Objectives of a PTW system and how permits are generated
Outcome: Personal responsibility in the PTW system

Unit 5 (OIS-252) - Helicopter Safety
Outcome: Key principles of and roles in Helicopter Safety

Target Group

Personnel who require awareness level training for working in Oil and Gas operations.

Prerequisites

You will be an experienced offshore worker and/or hold a valid OPITO MIST Initial or valid OPITO MIST Further training certificate. Prior to commencing the course, all candidates are required to supply a valid Vantage number. Certification is valid for 4 years from date of completion.
In order to qualify for this MIST Further Training course, OPITO requires that the delegate sitting this course, meets at least one of the two criteria below:

1) A valid OPITO MIST Initial (2-day classroom) OR valid OPITO MIST Further (online) training certificate
2) A valid Vantage POB number AND having previously worked offshore in the UK Continental Shelf (UKCS) or Internationally

NOTE: Learners are required to complete a declaration prior to course commencement confirming prior offshore work experience including details of their last offshore trip, to include asset name, location and dates.
If the person DOES NOT meet at least one of the above criteria, then they should not purchase / sit this MIST Further Training course.

OPITO requires that the delegate sitting this course provide photographic ID and their date of birth before starting this training.

Examination

Candidates are required to sit a pre-assessment to allow them to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of the course content against each of the learning objectives. This online version will automatically highlight any knowledge gaps and provide the option to review relevant, or all, content before retaking a customised assessment.
A pass mark of 100% is required to successfully complete the course.

Course Contents

This OPITO Minimum Industry Safety Training (MIST) Further Online Training course is specifically designed for experienced offshore workers operating in the UK oil and gas industry.

The aim of this online course is to enable candidates to retain an awareness of the major accident hazards, workplace hazards and associated controls to be found on offshore installations. Candidates are required to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding across the following key areas:

Major Accident Hazards , Workplace Hazards and Personal Safety , Risk Management , Control of Work , Helicopter Safety.
