Confined Space Entry & Rescue

Objective

This course provides delegates with appropriate knowledge and skills to identify the hazards of a confined space. Furthermore, teaches delegates how to plan and execute a safe entry and timely rescue in confined spaces.

Target Group

Industrial workers (onshore and offshore) who may be required to enter a confined space during work activities and are part of the emergency rescue team

Examination

Delegates will be assessed against the Learning Outcomes specified in the Content Section using direct observation and oral and/or written questions as appropriate. Delegates will be required to undertake a written test. The pass mark for this course is 80%. Should a delegate encounter challenges to meet these Learning Outcomes, RON shall provide additional coaching as an opportunity to meet those requirements

Course Contents

Delegates who successfully complete this course will acquire the following knowledge and skills: 1. Legal Requirement 2. Roles and Responsibilities 3. The Entry Permit 4. Interaction of Personnel 5. Hazard Identification & Assessment 6. Air Monitoring 7. Controlling Hazards 8. Personal Protective Gear 9. General Safe Work Practices 10. Safe Tool and Equipment Use including atmospheric monitors 11. SCBA use and care 12. Emergency Retrieval and Fall Protection 13. Communication Procedures 14. Dealing with Claustrophobia 15. Rescue and emergency provisions 16. Concluding the Entry and or Rescue Participants will be assessed practically as follows: 1. Inspection and donning of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) 2. Single entry into Confined space with PPE in limited visibility 3. Group entry into Confined space with PPE in limited visibility 4. “Snatch a Grab” exercises 5. Extrication using stretcher 6. Retrieval via winching
