HDA and HERTM Further Training

Objective

The HDA and HERTM Further Training Programme will give HDAs the opportunity to practice and maintain the skills required when dealing with helicopter emergency response situations or incidents as members of an Offshore Helideck Emergency Response Team, in aspects of their role which they cannot reasonably practise offshore

Target Group

The HDA and HERTM Further Training programme is designed for personnel that are required to revalidate their OPITO HDA certification by refreshing and updating their knowledge and skills in aspects of their role that they cannot practice in the workplace.

Prerequisites

Delegates must hold a valid OPITO HDA Helideck Emergency Response Team Member Training certificate ORA valid OPITO HDA and HERTM Further Training Certificate OR A valid OEHTM/OEHTM Further Training Certificate

Course Contents

•Updates of changes in helicopter operations, systems, relevant legislation and regulation over the last 2 years
•Refresher on the principles of helicopter emergency response
•Human factors affects during emergency response
•Practical exercises inclusive of:
•Techniques for keeping calm during an emergency response.
•Asking for assistance if overwhelmed by the emergency situation.
•Effective communications with HLO and other team members –clear and concise communication.
•Updating HLO on progress against the plan.
•Responding appropriately to HLO direction during a helideck emergency
•Effective execution of emergency response tasks.
•Conducting helicopter incident firefighting operations.
•Correct use of breathing apparatus (BA) when instructed by HLO.
•Conducting effective Helicopter/helideck SAR techniques.
•Responding to non-firefighting operations during a helicopter incident.
•Effective use of fixed and mobile firefighting systems.
•Correct casualty handling techniques.
