OIM CONTROLLING EMERGENCIES

Objective

This course is designed to assess delegates’ competency in
controlling emergencies. Assessment is based on performance
during three scenarios, undertaken in a purpose-built simulator,
which replicates the main features of the delegate’s own installation.

Target Group

Personnel who have command responsibility, including nominated deputies and reliefs.

Prerequisites

Delegates must provide a completed element 1.1 at the start of the assessment process. The required element 1.1 will be sent out with the joining instructions. It is also recommended that delegates have already completed a four-day Major Emergency Management Initial Response course or similar.

Examination

On completion of this course, a written assessment will be taken.

Course Contents

In accordance with OPITO standard, a minimum of three scenarios will be undertaken, based upon a major incident chosen from the following:

• Well Control Incident
• Explosion and fire
• Accommodation fire
• Helicopter incident
• Pipeline incident
• Collision or wave damage causing structural collapse
• Loss of stability (Mobile installations)
