A valid OPITO - approved Stage 1 Rigger Training Certificate, and a fully completed and valid logbook based on the OPITO Stage 2 Rigger Standard workplace requirements . Note: An experienced rigger can opt to take the Stage 3 Assessment without completing Stages 1 and 2, providing they have verifiable evidence of the relevant experience. (see course content for more information).
Rigger Competence Stage 3
The objective of the Rigger Competence Stage 3 Assessment is to establish that delegates have the required knowledge, understanding and practical skills to fulfil the role of rigger safely and effectively.
The Rigger Competence Stage 3 Assessment is for personnel who want to become an OPITO-certified competent rigger.
All delegates must hold a valid and in-date OPITO-approved Rigger Training Stage 1 certificate AND
A fully completed, valid log-book based on the OPITO Rigger Stage 2 requirements.
Candidates who do not hold the valid certification can submit a formal letter from their employer stating that they have met the equivalent of Stage 2 experience.
The course is an ongoing assessment during which delegates will be required to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of the course contents.
Upon successful completion of the course, delegates will be awarded with an OPITO-approved Rigger Competence Stage 3 Assessment certificate.
Certification is valid for 2 years. Prior to expiry, delegates must complete the Rigger Competence Stage 4 Reassessment to remain certified.
The course consists of a mix of ongoing theoretical and practical assessment designed to give delegates the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge, understanding and/or skills in the following areas:
• Effective and safe lifting techniques
• Hazard identification and risk mitigation
• Production of lift plans
• Effective communication with rigging team
• Lifting equipment – storage and inspections
• Health and safety legislation and associated regulations
• Post-lift procedures
