Basic Lifeboat Coxswain Course (Norsk olje og gass)
The objective of the Basic Lifeboat Coxswain course is to give delegates the theoretical and practical knowledge and skills required to safely command a lifeboat, including boarding, launching and staying at sea until rescue.
The Basic Lifeboat Coxswain course is for all personnel designated to undertake Lifeboat Coxswain duties and also required to meet the Norwegian Oil Industry Association (OLF) guidelines for safety and contingency training for conventional lifeboat coxswains.
Delegates must be in possession of a valid OPITO or Norsk olje og gass approved Survival Training certificate
Be in possession of a VHF/SRC certificat
The course is a mix of both practical and theoretical sessions during which delegates will be required to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of the course contents.
Upon completion of the course, delegates will be issued with an ‘in accordance with OLF guidelines’ certificate.
Certification is valid for 2 years. Prior to expiry delegates must undertake the Basic Lifeboat Coxswain Refresher course to remain certified.
The Basic Lifeboat Coxswain course covers a variety of topics including;
• Rules and regulations
• Technical description of lifeboat
• Emergency organisation/station bill/lines of command/stress
• Duties and responsibilities of the coxswain and crew
• Alternative means of evacuation
• First aid
