Transportation of Dangerous Goods by Sea (Initial)


To provide in depth training to Material Controllers, working within the oil and gas industry. The course may also be tailored around non oil and gas sectors. The course is an intense 3 days, with students being taught how to navigate their way through the IMDG Code. Included in the training student will also be expected to participate in various written and practical exercises, which will assist in them being successful on the final exam on the 3rd day of the course

Target Group

Dangerous Goods by sea is conducted in a manner that all students will gain a thorough knowledge of how to use and understand the 7 parts of the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code (IMDG Code). Students will also gain an understanding of how to engage with the relevant competent authorities in which the goods may be transported




On successful completion of the course, delegates will be awarded with a certificate issued by RelyOn Nutec, which will indicate successful completion of the course.

This course can be delivered at any RelyOn Nutec premises or at a Customer¿s premises, including overseas.

Course Contents

Day 1:
Course registration / introduction
Introduction of the various regulation (UN, Merchant Shipping Legislation, MCA and the IMDG Code)
General provisions, definitions and training
The UN Classification system
How to navigate the Dangerous Goods List, including Limited and excepted quantities
Identification of Dangerous Goods which are Not Otherwise Specified (NOS)

Day 2:
Dealing with mixtures and solutions od Dangerous Goods
How to use packing instructions
Packaging specification and testing

Day 3:
Marking and labelling Dangerous Goods packagings
Marking and labelling of containers and other transport units
The completion of Dangerous Goods documentation
Segregation procedures
