Advanced Fire Fighting Team Member (ERT)

Objective

• Equip the delegate with the necessary knowledge, understanding and skills to perform the role of Emergency Response Team Member safely and effectively.

Target Group

This program is designed to fulfill the training and assessment needs for persons who are members of an Offshore Fire/Emergency Response Team at an Offshore Installation which is susceptible to experiencing disastrous industrial fires.

Prerequisites

A valid BOSIET/TBOSIET or FOET/TFOET Certificate

Examination

Delegates will be assessed against the Learning Outcomes specified in the Content Section using direct observation as appropriate.

Should a delegate encounter challenges to meet these Learning Outcomes, RON shall provide additional coaching as an opportunity to meet those requirements.

Course Contents

Delegates who successfully complete this course will acquire the following knowledge and skills:
Theory
• Knowledge of Offshore Fire/Emergency response arrangements
• Preparing to enter the incident area
• Gaining access to the incident area
• Using best working practices and procedures
• Locating missing personnel and casualty handling
• On scene first aid procedures
• Selecting and using the correct portable firefighting equipment including foam wheeled unit
• Extinguishing live fires (fuel in-depth/troughs/pressure fires)
• Conducting and controlling BA operations
• Maintaining communications

Practical
• Effective execution of emergency response tasks.
• Correct donning and use of breathing apparatus (BA) (all delegates to practice donning and using BA).
• Effective Search and rescue (SAR) principles and techniques –locating, extracting and handling missing personnel and casualties following a helicopter incident on the helideck.
• Appropriate response to non-firefighting operations during incident.
• Effective use of firefighting fixed, portable and mobile systems, including fixed fire monitors, dry chemical and Co2 fire extinguishment and control media
• Correct casualty handling techniques.
• Hose-running techniques and associated hazards

Note:
All practical exercises require delegates to be fully equipped with firefighting Personal Protective Equipment.
